Christine and Jonathan: Gastown Engagement Session

Sunday, 4 August 2013

Gastown, Vancouver: What a fun place to shoot Christine and Jonathan’s Engagement session. I’d met the both of them almost a year earlier at Heather and Mike’s wedding, where Christine was the maid of honour. So it wasn’t too long after that wedding when Jonathan popped the question to Christine, and I was incredibly honoured to be asked to photograph it. I’d had a great time at Heather and Mike’s, so it was really cool to go into something where I’d gotten to know the couple already! Here are a few from the session, wedding to come asap!

Heather and Mike: UBC Museum of Anthropology Engagement Session

Sunday, 26 August 2012

Vancouver gal originally from Hong Kong meets Midwest guy in Indiana. They fall in love, she learns to go ATV’ing and fishing, and they get married. That’s Heather and Mike’s story in a nutshell. Even though they’re currently living in Indiana, they contacted me because they were having their ceremony at the Tea House at Stanley Park in Vancouver, which incidentally is where I proposed to my wife, so I was really excited about shooting their wedding. We had the engagement session at the Museum of Anthropology just a few days before their wedding. Mike had just arrived in town that day, talking about a crammed schedule!

This was a fun outing, where I used my brand-new Canon 5D Mark III + 50/1.2 lens alongside my workhorse Nikon D3x. Both gave spectacular results. More to come on their wedding soon…

Janette and Bruce: Stanley Park Engagement and Family Session

Friday, 13 July 2012

Janette and Bruce were my very first maternity shoot over three years ago, and it was exciting to hear from them after that time to and to find out they were engaged and wanted me to shoot their engagement session. Of course, their wonderful three year old daughter, Ava, would be there and this would be a combined family and engagement shoot.

We returned to the same location we had the maternity shoot, Second Beach at Stanley Park. Ava had this to say to her mom after: “Mom, I gave away all my smiles! I'm all out! It'll take 100 years to get more.” That pretty much sums it all for me – it was a fun shoot with lots of chances for experimentation, and full-on action portraits.
