Heather and Mike: Stanley Park Teahouse Wedding

Wednesday, 19 September 2012

Heather and Mike’s wedding at the Teahouse in Stanley Park was quite possibly the most fun wedding I’ve been to. Due to a shortage of cars, I became part of the vehicle pool (all part of the service of course!). Like I’d turn down transporting the gorgeous bridesmaids to the shoot location?

Of course, whom should I meet crossing the road in front of me in the middle of downtown Vancouver but my wife and daughter who had gone shopping with no idea I’d even be in the area. One of the bridesmaids (the maid of honour, Christine, I’m pretty sure it was) shouted out the window to her, “don’t worry, we’re the bridesmaids, not some random strangers!”. It was hilarious, and we got to rock the sound system in the Cayenne on the way to Stanley Park. What an awesome drive and start to the day!

Their friends put together a couple of really touching slideshows – narrating, and talking about the pictures and family anecdotes, instead of just setting them to music and letting them run, which just amped up the emotional factor. Definitely a great idea! Add to that the homemade cake and cupcakes, a nice blend of friends and family with a great, intimate, small location in the bright Conservatory room. The Teahouse is also the place I got engaged so many years ago, so it was pretty cool to shoot there.

At one point late in the evening I set the camera down for a bit of a break to dance on the floor with everybody else, and Heather picked up my camera and started taking snaps of me! That’s pretty much how things were – just a lovely, friendly, fun, and memorable wedding.

Janette and Bruce: Stanley Park Engagement and Family Session

Friday, 13 July 2012

Janette and Bruce were my very first maternity shoot over three years ago, and it was exciting to hear from them after that time to and to find out they were engaged and wanted me to shoot their engagement session. Of course, their wonderful three year old daughter, Ava, would be there and this would be a combined family and engagement shoot.

We returned to the same location we had the maternity shoot, Second Beach at Stanley Park. Ava had this to say to her mom after: “Mom, I gave away all my smiles! I'm all out! It'll take 100 years to get more.” That pretty much sums it all for me – it was a fun shoot with lots of chances for experimentation, and full-on action portraits.
